Achieve Your Educational Goals. Explore Scholarship Opportunities

The Arizona Community Foundation is Arizona's largest independent provider of college scholarships.   In partnership with our generous donors, we award millions of dollars annually to help students achieve their educational goals.

People are not born brain-wired knowing how to navigate the byzantine admissions process that American colleges and universities have in their wisdom imposed on their aspiring students…

-- Edward B. Fiske, Author of Fiske Guide to Colleges

CONGRATULATIONS!  You have just taken the single most important step in getting your child into college.  Organizing and planning your child’s high school years and college search will not only help you to make the best decisions regarding college, but it will help to minimize some of the most stressful educational situations that you and your child will face.

If you have ever felt like getting your child into college is like a lottery and getting scholarship money is nearly impossible, this guide is for you!  We are going to break down the process so that anyone can get their child ready for post high school education.

There are six sections to this guide; Personal Information, High School Checklists, Tracking Your High School Years, Honors, AP and Dual Enrollment, The College Search (which includes tips for the academic resume and essays), and Understanding Financial Aid. Each section provides a space to gather and document information that you will need once the college application process begins.  What really makes this guide remarkable is the treasure trove of information that is included in each section.   I personally spent countless hours researching, verifying and compiling this information so that it is accurate and relevant.  The information is pulled from such reliable sources as The College Board, Studentaid.gov, and NACAC (National Association of College Admission Counseling).

Thank you, Donna Phillips

Donna is a very great SAT teacher and my daughter has learned a lot to prepare for the SAT. My son has also improved in reading comprehension and has learned how to find important information in a long piece of text to prepare him for reading tests.

“Donna is the absolute best in the business. She helped me break down my academic goals and get smart about achieving them. She helped me develop skill sets in achieving my academic goals that I use today in non-academic settings.”

Mrs. Phillips helped myself and a small group of friends to improve our ACT scores, receive more scholarship money from universities, find private grants and scholarships as well help with essays for college admittance.

She gave us several practice ACT exams, and each time focused in on the sections that we were weakest in. In between tests, we were individually responsible to do work Mrs. Phillips thought would enrich us that subject.

Over the course of about 2 months, not only did my ACT score improve from a 26 up to a 28, I also learned how to write better scholarship and college admission essays. Because of the two point jump in my ACT score, and because of my stronger essay writing, I was accepted into Barrett The Honors College at ASU. I'm now studying to get my B.S. In Geography, with a $24,000 scholarship.

Ms. Donna spent extensive time with each one of us individually and as a group. She helped us search for scholarships and helped us study for our ACT every day leading up to it. By working with a group we were able to bounce ideas off of each other and help each other look at problems a different way. The environment we were in while studying was quiet and thought provoking. I got a 26 on my ACT the first time I took it and after studying with Ms. Donna my score improved to a 29. I received a total of $7,000 of scholarships per semester totaling to $14,000 per year to the University of Arizona through my ACT score and previous academic achievement.

"Donna's ACT tutoring allowed me to jump 4 points between my first and second attempt on the test. This directly contributed to me receiving a full academic scholarship to MTSU's honors college. I know this because my ACT score (29) was the lowest score of the 20 students who received the prestigious Buchanan Fellows Scholarship at MTSU in 2009. Had I not been tutored by Donna, I likely wouldn't have had a high enough ACT to qualify for the scholarship. Donna's tutoring is not just about getting into college, but enjoying the benefits of financial freedom during college, and being debt free in the crucial years after graduation."

Donna was an easy choice for us. She came highly recommended and offered one on one tutoring for our daughter's ACT prep. This was important to us. We appreciate the individualized attention that Donna provides. Our daughter enjoys working with her and has quickly improved in some of her ACT subject areas.

Thank you Donna!
